In a joint statement the two former Yugoslav republics said the decision to recognise Kosovo was the result of thorough political assessment. Montenegro's Foreign Minister Milan Rocen said he hoped relations would remain friendly with Serbia, a traditional ally and staunch opponent of Kosovo's secession. Belgrade has reinstated its ambassadors to the US and other Western countries after freezing relations with them for recognising Kosovo's independence in February.
