Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme has confirmed that the French banking giant BNP Paribas will acquire a majority holding in the troubled financial services group Fortis.
BNP is to take over 75 percent of Fortis capital in Belgium, as well as 66 percent of the company's assets in Luxembourg. The news comes after a rescue plan broke down on Friday in The Netherlands.
