In the United States the two vice-presidential candidates are taking part in a much-anticipated debate in St Louis this hour. This will be the only debate of the campaign between the Republican, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and the Democrat, Delaware Senator Joe Biden.
Each is looking to demonstrate that he or she is better qualified to be US vice president. They have been talking up the virtues of their presidential running mates, John McCain and Barack Obama. All major US television networks and many here in Europe have been broadcasting the 90-minute-long event live.
