European Union foreign policy coordinator Javier Solana says he is confident that Russia will respect a peace plan which calls for its forces to pull back from deep inside Georgia.
Solana has arrived in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, ahead of a European Union mission being deployed to monitor a Russo-Georgian ceasefire. EU, Russia Open Talks on New Strategic Partnership ... said they would not permit the European Union military observers to operate in areas controlled by Russian troops, in and around the renegade provinces Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
