Somali pirates are demanding 35 million dollars for the release of a Ukrainian ship and its crew.
The vessel was carrying military supplies, including 33 tanks, for Kenya, when it was seized late on Thursday off the Somali coast. It had 21 crew-members, mostly Ukranians, on board at the time. Pirates have seized more than 30 vessels off Somalia this year, making the waters some of the most dangerous in the world. Most ransom demands to date have been for between one and two million dollars.
