Russian and Venezuelan officials have signed two deals to bolster cooperation in the oil and gas industry.
The signing ceremony in the Russian city of Orenburg was overlooked by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez. This comes a day after Chavez met outside Moscow with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, who offered Russian help in developing nuclear power in Venezuela. Putin also expressed Russia's willingness to cooperate with Venezuela in military and technical matters. Russia's rapprochement with the US critic Chavez is likely to contribute to a stronger chill in relations with Washington.
