Police in Pakistan have reported that two Islamist militants have blown themselves up when police raided their hideout in Karachi. The city's police chief said a tip led to the raid which prevented an attack in the coastal city, Pakistan's biggest.
For months now, the Pakistani government has been battling Islamist insurgents in the north-west, who have in turn launched bloody suicide attacks across the country. Last weekend, a suicide truck bomb destroyed much of the Marriott Hotel in the capital, Islamabad, and killed more than 50 people.
