The group, which includes five Germans, five Italians, a Romanian and local guides, was taken hostage in Egypt's southwest, near the border with Sudan last Friday. They were subsequently pinpointed just inside Sudanese territory. The authorities in Egypt and Sudan said German officials had established direct contact with the kidnappers and were negotiating for the release of the hostages.
