The European Commission has proposed a total ban on any baby food products from China that contain traces of milk.
A Commission spokeswoman in Brussels said EU authorities would also carry out tests on all products containing more than 50 percent of milk powder. The ban, which is to come into force on Friday, was proposed in response to China's ongoing milk powder scandal. The industrial chemical melamine has been discovered in a growing range of dairy products in China. It is blamed for sickening 53,000 infants and killing four throughout the Asian country.
