The five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council plus Germany have cancelled a meeting to discuss their efforts to curb Iran's nuclear programme.
The top diplomats from the six countries had planned to meet on the fringes of the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has expressed serious concern about the cancellation of the talks. He told reporters in New York that without the meeting it would be more difficult for the international community to bring the necessary diplomatic pressure to bear on Iran, to convince it to halt its uranium enrichment activities.
