The ministry said Egypt was negotiating with the kidnappers, and that there were no immediate plans for a rescue operation, as that might endanger the hostages. The group, which includes five Germans, five Italians, a Romanian and their local guides, was seized in Egypt's south-west, close to the border with Sudan last Friday. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of six million euros.
