Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fakuda and his cabinet have officially resigned, with Taro Aso set to become the country's new prime minister.
Newly elected as leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Aso is expected to be voted into the premiership later on Wednesday by the Japanese House of Representatives. The LDP holds a majority in the lower chamber of Parliament. Yasuo Fukuda served as prime minister for less than a year.
