Egypt is working to free a group of 19 hostages, which includes a number of European tourists.
The Reuters news agency reports that the kidnappers are threatening to kill the hostages, unless Egypt stops searching for them. The group, which includes five Germans, five Italians, a Rumanian and their local guides, was seized at gunpoint close to the border with Sudan last Friday. The kidnappers, who are believed to have taken their captives into Sudan, are reportedly demanding a ransom of up to 15 million euros.
