Fillon was in the Black Sea resort of Sochi and said after meeting Putin that the more Europe and Russia speak to each other and maintain trust, the easier stability and peace will be to construct. Ties between Moscow and Europe have been strained since last month's war between Georgia and Russia. France currently holds the EU presidency and its president, Nicolas Sarkozy, negotiated a deal to end the Georgian conflict.
