Abducted Frenchman in Afghanistan released ... a power-sharing deal between Zimbabwe's opposition and President Robert Mugabe's ZANU-PF party. The French presidency of the EU called the agreement a "significant step forward", but also said it would wait for further details to emerge before releasing economic aid to the country.
Zimbabwe's main opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai reached a deal with Mugabe late on Thursday. However, full details are only to be revealed on Monday at a signing ceremony to be attended by African leaders. Talks were deadlocked for weeks over who should be given more executive power. There are unconfirmed reports that opposition parties will have a slight majority in a unity-cabinet, with Mugabe retaining control of the military and the opposition gaining control of the police.
