Somali pirates have released a German ship hijacked three weeks ago.
The owners of the vessel, the Beluga Shipping Company, said the 13 crew members, mostly Russian nationals, were left unharmed but would be examined by doctors. The Reuters news agency reports that a seven-digit ransom was paid to release the "BBC Trinidad" and its crew. A Japanese vessel has reportedly been released as well. The ships were among three vessels hijacked on August 21 in the Gulf of Aden. The area, between Somalia and Yemen, is one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, but also notorious for pirate attacks, which have surged this year.
