Pakistani officials say at least 16 soldiers have been killed and dozens injured in an ambush in Pakistan's restive North-West Frontier Province.
Dozens of insurgents attacked a convoy of paramilitary troops as it was heading towards the volatile town of Hangu, 40 km west of the garrison town of Kohat. Three militants were said to have been killed as the soldiers returned fire. Local Islamist extremist Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
