German Economy Minister Michael Glos has paid a surprise visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad, becoming the first cabinet minister to visit since the US-led invasion in 2003.

German police raid radical Islam suspects ... Minister Nuri al-Maliki and discussed German companies' interest in Iraq's oil reserves with oil minister Hussein al-Shahristani and industry minister Fawzi al-Hariri. Glos told the Bild that no other country in the Middle East has such large and untapped oil reserves. He is expected to return to Germany later this Saturday. The visit comes just days ahead of a planned visit by al-Maliki to Berlin.
