The head of the investigating team, Burhanullah Shinwari, said most of the victims were women and children. He said that there were no signs of Taliban or al-Qaida fighters in the region. The US military said on Sunday, when the strike happened, that no civilians were killed in the incident. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has frequently called on international troops in the country to exercise more caution.
