Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, rebels said they would free the hostages only if Germany gave up what they called "hostile policies" against the PKK. The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by the European Union and has been banned in Germany for nearly 15 years. The three German mountaineers were taken hostage late on Tuesday on Mount Ararat.
