The bill is yet to be signed by President Vaclav Klaus. The change also concerns nine out of the 27 wards in which elections will be held in October. Klaus has not yet announced the date of the elections to one third of the Senate.

Czech president thanks KDU-CSL for support, praises reforms ... later than the Senate elections. The borders of wards have had to be changed practically every two years mainly due to the outflow of inhabitants from the centre of Prague. The change must be made when the number of inhabitants in a ward drops below the law-set 16 percent divergence from the average that is 127,000 people. The Senate, the upper house of parliament, was set up in 1996. The election term of 81 senators is six years. One third of the senators are changed every two years.
