including a radar base to be stationed on Czech soil, by 2015 with regard for the Iranian threat. He said he believes that anti-missile defence gives world politicians more opportunities to react in case of crisis. U.S. diplomat John Rood who has been negotiating in Europe, including with the Czech Republic about participation in the anti-missile shield, said today the Czech part of the system, or the radar base, would be built in 2013 to 2014. He was, however, unable to say when the still open and very complex negotiations with Poland on a base for ten interceptor missiles will end. Rood said the radar base to be placed in the Brdy military district, some 90km southwest of Prague, is of a complementary importance for the United States and the European part of NATO even without the Polish missile base. He said that based on information from the radar, it will be possible to home in AEGIS U.S. naval forces missiles or anti-aircraft defence means used by NATO European countries. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her Czech counterpart, Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, signed the main treaty on stationing the radar base on Czech soil in Prague on Tuesday. To come into force, the agreement must be ratified by the two houses of Czech parliament and signed by the president. The Czech Republic and the United States still have to sign a complementary agreement on U.S. soldiers' stay in the Czech Republic, also known as SOFA.
