German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged Chinese President Hu Jintao to work for a successful outcome to talks between China and representatives of Tibet's spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
That's according to a statement issued by Merkel's office after the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G8 summit in Japan. The Chinese government and the Dalai Lama's representatives last week wound up another round of talks on the status of Tibet, but an envoy of the spiritual leader said that no headway had been made.
