The head of the European Union has called on Germany to reconsider its policy towards atomic energy.
Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso told the "Bild am Sonntag" newspaper that in light of climate change and rising energy prices, the importance of nuclear power had to be considered. He said he understood that Germans were sensitive about atomic energy but that it at least could provide a temporary solution in the fight to stop climate change and to reduce dependence on oil and gas.
