Mbeki meets Mugabe ... Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has welcomed an African Union resolution calling for a unity government.
One of his ministers said Mugabe would talk with the opposition to end the political crisis following last week's disputed presidential election. Mugabe was re-elected unopposed after opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai dropped out of the race due to violence against his supporters. Meanwhile South African President Thabo Mbeki, the chief mediator between Mugabe's ZANU-PF party and the opposition, has warned against trying to impose a solution from the outside. He made the statement after French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said the European Union would only accept a Zimbabwean government led by Tsvangirai.
