The Memorial would like to do this by May 18 when the traditional Terezin ceremony commemorating Nazi victims will take place at the cemetery. A company to make new plates has not yet been chosen, Janousek said. Victims from the Gestapo prison in Terezin's little fortress, the Jewish ghetto in the town and the concentration camp in nearby Litomerice lie buried at the National Cemetery. During World War Two, the Nazis established the largest complex of concentration camps on the territory of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia in Terezin. The former garrison town turned into a ghetto for European Jews from where regular transports were dispatched to extermination camps, and the nearby little fortress served as a Gestapo prison.
