Germany braced for strikes ... conference in Brussels that his country is close to adopting a key energy law, crucial for national reconciliation.
al-Maliki said he expected the agreement to be signed in a matter of weeks. The Iraqi prime minister is making his first official visit to the European Union in a trip aimed at promoting closer ties with the 27-nation bloc. European Commission President Manuel Barrosso said he hoped to sign a preliminary agreement on energy co-operation with Iraq in the near future, adding that Iraq's oil minister had been invited to Brussels next month. The division of oil revenues has been one of the key stumbling blocs to reconciliation efforts between Iraq's sectarian groups.
